Detroit Rock City

Thursday night we saw the New York based band, Caveman play at PJ's Lager House.  PJ's is tiny which made for an amazing intimate show.

A band named Hospitality opened the show.  They had a very cool Pixies/Kate Nash vibe.
The show was amazing.  It was a breath of fresh air to see people making music; real music and not just some well marketed radio mess.  Check them out at, http://cavemantheband.com/  I guarantee you'll love them!

Cure for the common cold

I came home from work the other day to find Brandon sick as a dog.  Even though men tend to exaggerate their symptoms at times, I knew he was serious, because he had to cancel some of his clients due to his illness.  So, I did what any good wife would do and made him sorta homemade chicken and dumplings soup.  Don't forget to check below for the recipe!

SORTA HOMEMADE CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 soup can filled with water
1 soup can filled with milk
1 can of biscuits
1 chicken bouillon cube
1 large chicken breast
1/3 onion (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

In a large pan, mix two cans of cream of chicken soup with water, milk, chopped onion and bouillon cube.  Next add cooked chicken cut into bite sized pieces.  When boiling, add biscuits, pinched into quarters. Stir gently but constantly.  Modify as needed and have fun!  This recipe is actually a modification of 4 different recipes.  Bon Appetite!

Attention Banksy...

Ok, in our small state of Michigan a Banksy piece was probably a one shot deal but I bet Hanksy would be interested...
(PS: for those who aren't familiar with Hanksy's work http://www.woostercollective.com/post/hanksy-hits-chicago)
Graffiti Alley in Ann Arbor is literally the best hidden treasure in the city. This blink-and-you-might-miss-it spot began as a one-man project in the 80's and has now grown into a huge canvas for local graffiti artists.

The Grandpa K Special

Yesterday morning I was running super late for work and asked Brandon to make me a sandwich.  When I went downstairs to pack my stuff up, I noticed that unbeknownst to him, Brandon had made me a very special sandwich.  You see, to the casual on looker, they would notice that the sandwich was made with two ends of a bread loaf; meaning I am way over due to get to the grocery store.  But to me, he made the Grandpa K Special.

My Grandpa Kenney died when I was 12 so the memories I have of him are few but very strong.  Among the things he taught me was how to blow a bubble with bubble gum, the "Beans, Beans" song and dozens of mild dirty limericks.  But he was also just about the only person I knew who loved the butts of the loaf of bread.  Though the sandwich wasn't exactly delicious, it did make me laugh which I'll take any day.  Oh, and I still really need to get to the grocery store...

Ode to Detroit Part 3

There were surprises all over Belle Isle just as there are all over the city.  From the finish line from when they used to race cars there to the abandoned building... cover your eyes Mom... I went into to get some shots of local artists graffiti, there was something new and different everywhere I looked.
There is only one part left to my Detroit photography project.  I hope that these photos have inspired some of you to head down to the city soon and revisit some of the places you used to go as a child or adult.  I'm quite sure you'll be happy you did!
